Students from two La Mesa-Spring Valley Schools and their families were treated to a Thanksgiving dinner and celebration in Chula Vista on Thursday, November 15, 2018. The event was a collaboration with the district and the National Latino Peace Officer Association, assisted by John Betts, a district-based Deputy Probation Officer, who works closely with students, families and staff. Students at Bancroft Elementary were nominated by the principal, Kim Libenguth, and her leadership team; and students at Maryland Avenue Elementary were nominated by the principal, Kelli Maringer and her team, in collaboration with the La Mesa Police Department. The celebration included a bike giveaway for students who were recognized at the event.
Hoping to expand outreach services and create meaningful connections with students, families, and members of the community, the San Diego County Probation Department and La Mesa Police Department are working closely with La Mesa-Spring Valley Schools. Students and families are able to build positive relationships and community partnerships by engaging with local law enforcement at regular after-school events.
