LMSV recognizes that good attendance is essential to academic success. The District has joined a nationwide effort to celebrate Attendance Awareness Month in September and pledged to raise awareness about the value of regular school attendance and focus on reducing chronic absenteeism in the new school year.

Attending school is important! Showing up to school every day is critical for your child’s well being, engagement, and learning. We need your help in making attendance a priority this year, even when it isn’t easy. Here are some things to help your family get back into the school routine.

1. Set a regular bedtime and morning routine
2. Set medical and dental appointments when school is not in session and if there are no other options send your child to school for part of the day.
3. Avoid taking vacations when school is in session
4. Send children to school every day, unless they are truly sick

Did You Know?

• Starting in kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school.
• Missing 10 percent (or about 18 days) can impact reading, math, and social skills.
• Students can still fall behind if they miss just a day or two days every few weeks.
• Excused and unexcused absences contributes to your child’s overall attendance.
• Arriving late and picking your child up early from school affects their attendance
