Spring Valley Academy partnered with local business partner, Baron’s Market in North Park, to provide crates full of food for families in need over the Thanksgiving break. Dean of students, Sarah Shemirani, reached out to Baron’s Marketplace regarding the need for food. Many families in the community of Spring Valley near SVA are in need of food during the Thanksgiving break. Baron’s rose to the challenge and provided an incredible donation of food that included pantry items, snacks, meals and fresh goods. SVA counselor, Jamechia Prater-Moril, Dean Soriano, and district-based Deputy Probation Officer, John Betts, visited Baron’s Market in North Park for the gracious donation and delivered it to the school’s “Eagle Emporium.” The Eagle Emporium is an incredible food pantry and closet space for community families located at SVA. The Eagles Emporium was created entirely by the SVA staff and students. The majority of foods, toiletries and clothing donations come from SVA staff and families.
Over Veteran’s Day weekend, SVA staff, students and families donated their time to preparing bags of food for families in the community. Students and staff were led by Club Serve adviser, Kelly Pallitto, in these efforts. The food preparation isn’t just for the Thanksgiving meal, it’s foods to help the family be nourished during the entire week of Thanksgiving break. Caring and dedicated school office assistant, Roxana Diaz, has worked diligently to connect with families in Spring Valley to plan pick-up and drop-off of the food before the break begins. Thanks to the efforts of the SVA team, in partnership with Baron’s Marketplace, over 30 families in Spring Valley enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner and a week’s worth of food, nourishment and comfort.
