The La Mesa Arts Academy Food Drive has been abundantly successful this holiday season! The LMAAC Community Action Team (CAT) partnered with City Hope, a community collaboration that facilitates resilience and wellness. According to CAT team advisor, Jennifer Schroeder, students were able to pack 230 bags of food. All of the bags were filled with necessary items including multiple dinner and breakfast meals to help families get through Thanksgiving week. Ms, Schroeder noted, “We could not have accomplished this without the help of the La Mesa Rotary, La Mesa Community Kids Foundation, La Mesa Spring Valley Education Foundation, City Hope and Crosspointe Church.” A CAT team member described the process: “We begin by running our annual canned food drive on the LMAAC campus, asking families for donations. Then City Hope Executive Director, Dani Womack, purchases the rest of the needed food that is then sorted and packed into the bags by CAT students. We have been filling bags twice a year, for over five years. We will be packing bags again prior to winter break.” We are grateful to the many community partners who make the food drives such a success.
