Bill Pollakov, community member and founder of BikesForKids.org, donated over 100 bicycles to second and third graders at Casa de Oro Elementary School. Recently, the multipurpose room at CDO was filled with boxes of bikes and volunteers from local organization Common Ground and CDO staff putting bikes together. It was past 10 p.m. on Tuesday night that the last bicycle was assembled. In addition to the bicycles, helmets were also donated. The gifts came as a complete surprise to the children at CDO. The beautiful new bikes are a great way to ensure that students engage in safe, healthy and fun play after school and on weekends. The excitement of the unsuspecting children during the bicycle give away assembly was astounding and pure joy. One student shared, “This is awesome, I feel so lucky.” Despite a long week and evening, principal Dana James couldn’t wait to get to school for the special reveal.
The CDO team and the LMSV team are deeply grateful for this generous donation of bicycles and helmets to the children in our schools.
